Austenitic Grades – This grade is non-magnetic and stainless. The heat treatment cannot harden this alloy. These are actually iron chromium-nickel steels. The most common grades are 300 series which are used mostly because of its stainless properties and unusually good mechanical properties. In this series, 304 is the basic grade. Also, there exists L grade in this series that is low carbon grade and provides extra corrosion resistance after welding.
The other two popular grades in this series are 316 and 317.
